Roman Higgins’s mother Eva Poulsen and three family members have launched a multimillion-dollar medical negligence claim against Children’s Health Queensland.
It alleges Roman’s death in 2019 was caused by a ligature being placed around his aorta, instead of the arterial duct, during non-urgent heart surgery at Queensland Children’s Hospital. The failure to recognise the error until more than four hours later led to multiple organ failure, according to medical records, the claim says.
